This National STEM Day, Mayfield celebrates the university towns that nurture the next generation of innovators in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and promote related careers.
Observed on November 8 (“Nov8”), a play on the word “innovate”, the day celebrates and encourages students to explore STEM fields through hands-on learning and critical thinking, with a focus on engaging girls and underrepresented communities.
At Mayfield, we’re shining a light on the university towns helping to shape the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers. From Pearl on the Concho in San Angelo near Angelo State University, to Sunrise Inn Williamstown near Northern Kentucky University, and Leland Hotel in Palo Alto near Stanford University, Mayfield proudly serves the academic communities that drive discovery and progress across the USA.
Expanding Access: ASU’s Mobile STEM Innovation Lab
In September 2025, Angelo State University (ASU) unveiled its cutting-edge Mobile STEM Innovation Lab, a high-tech vehicle designed to bring immersive learning experiences to rural and underserved West Texas communities. Equipped with AI modules and robotics systems, the mobile lab delivers the excitement of discovery directly to students, no matter where they live. The Pearl on the Concho Hotel is located just three miles away from the university, so it is the perfect location for visitors, students and lecturers alike.
Building AI Education Capacity: Northern Kentucky University
Sunrise Inn Williamstown is just a 45-minute drive from Northern Kentucky University, so it’s the best spot to enjoy a unique hotel experience, whilst visiting this STEM hotspot. NKU is making waves on the national stage. In May 2025, NKU received a $300,000 National Science Foundation grant to lead a national initiative focused on AI-education readiness. The project, coordinated by the Computing Research Association, will help universities strengthen their AI curricula and better integrate artificial intelligence into undergraduate and graduate programs.
Honoring Excellence: Stanford’s Year of Milestones
In the heart of Palo Alto, the Leland Hotel places you steps from Stanford University and the world’s leading tech companies. Stanford University continues to set the standard for excellence in STEM. In 2025, Stanford researchers J. Haah (Physics) and S.Y. Lee (Mathematics) earned the Breakthrough Prizes among the most prestigious honors in science and math. Their recognition reinforces Stanford’s global reputation as a hub for groundbreaking discovery.
This year also marks the 100th anniversary of Stanford’s School of Engineering, a centennial celebration of innovation that has shaped technology and engineering for generations. The school’s legacy continues to inspire students and educators worldwide.
